Coach
Turner joined the Parkland coaching staff in November of 2006 after spending
the previous two years at Mount Tabor, during which time he coached 2006 NHSCA
Senior National Champion Harry Glenn & 2012 NCAA All-American Austin
Trotman. Coach Turner initially worked with the 2006-07 and 2007-08 JV teams
that combined for 27 trips to the State Tournament, 20 state placements, 7
individual state championships, and 6 All-American honors, to include 2011
NHSCA Senior National Runner-Up Antwan Davis &
2007 NHSCA Summer National Open Middle School Champion DeSean
Grimes-Hines.
He
was promoted to Assistant Head Coach in the summer of 2009, since then he has
worked with the Varsity & JV. One of his proudest moments to date has been
taking just two wrestlers to the 2012 NHSCA Nationals in Virginia Beach due to
a conflict with exams, and both bringing home All-American honors to include Phazon Roddy winning the NHSCA
Senior Nationals 106 Lbs. Championship.
Coach
Turner is a three-time Retrorankings.com Assistant Coach of the Year (2010,
2011, & 2012).
Coach
Turner competed in High School for Parkland, and was a member of the 1988-89
team that went 13-1. Coach Turner
started the Triad Grappler Wrestling Club and currently runs the Winston
Wrestling Club. He is the father of current Parkland wrestler Drew Turner.
